Another Team Made Debut In T20I, Created History In World Cup Qualifier Match: The 2022 ICC T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier C begins today in Belgium. On Day 1, hosts Belgium beat Gibraltar by seven wickets and Denmark beat Hungary by 88 runs, while in Group 2, Spain beat Malta by six wickets and Portugal beat Israel by 46 runs. Israel’s team became the 89th team to play T20 Internationals.
Playing first against Belgium in Group 1, Gibraltar scored 139/5 in 20 overs with the help of an unbeaten 76 by captain Balaji Pai, in response to which Belgium won by losing three wickets in just 12 overs. Aziz Mohammad was adjudged man of the match for his scintillating innings of 72 off 29 balls.
Created History In World Cup Qualifier Match
Playing first against Hungary in Group 1 itself, Denmark scored 190/4 in 20 overs with the help of ‘man of the match’ Taranjit Bharaj’s 63, Hamid Shah’s 51, and Nicolas Legsgaard’s 45. In reply, Hungary’s team was all out after scoring 100 runs in 15 overs. Nicolas Legsgaard also took three wickets in the bowling.
Against Spain in Group 2, Malta scored 148/8 in 20 overs, in response to which Spain won by losing four wickets in 18.4 overs. Yasir Ali (2/35 & 65*) was adjudged man of the match for his all-around performance. Daniel Doyle-Kale also played a half-century innings of 50 runs for Spain.
In the second match of Group 2, Portugal scored 155/4 in 20 overs, in response to which Israel, playing their debut match, scored 108/6 in 20 overs. Amandeep Singh was adjudged man of the match for taking three wickets for just 11 runs.
Denmark will face Gibraltar, and Belgium will face Hungary in Group 1 on 29 June. In Group 2, Malta will face Portugal, and Spain will face Israel.
