The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) can soon announce the Central Contract 2022 (BCCI Central Contract) in the coming days. Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, the two most experienced batsmen of the Indian Test team, have been battling very poor form for the last 1-2 years.
There have been many demands to drop both the players from the team. Now in such a situation, the effect of the poor performance of these two players can be seen in their central contract. Actually, the news is also coming out that both Pujara and Rahane can also be shown the way out of the list of Central Contract.
There are 4 categories in BCCI’s central contract
There are 4 categories in the BCCI Central Contract – A Plus, A, B, and C. In which the annual retainership is Rs 7 crore, Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore, and Rs 1 crore respectively. In such a situation, during the announcement of this new contract, young players like KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, who have become members of Team India in all three formats, will have a lot of eye on them.
Both the players are currently included in the BCCI’s A Category Central Contract. But considering their performance in the last few years, they can be included in the A+ category.
Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul will get a reward
In BCCI, the decision on retainership is usually taken by three board officials, five selectors and the national head coach. In the last time’s Central Contract, 28 players were given place. This time too, there will be no special change in this list. However, a big change can be seen in the category of players. A senior BCCI source told PTI on the condition of anonymity that, of course, the three most important players across all formats, Rohit, Kohli, and Bumrah will without any doubt remain in the ‘A+’ category. But Rahul and Pant are also now establishing themselves as regular players in all formats so it will be seen whether these two get a promotion or not.
Many big players may get a setback
Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, the two most experienced players of the team, who have been battling poor form for a long time, can be blamed for poor performance. The source said that the Central Contracts show the performance where you are on the basis of your performance during the previous season. If BCCI and head coach Rahul Dravid decide to keep in Group A by respecting the experience of both, then it is a different issue but under normal circumstances, they do not stay in Group A. Similarly, Ishant Sharma and Hardik Pandya have also struggled with injuries and form throughout the season, which could push them into Group B.
Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Siraj may see an increase in their contracts in view of their excellent performance. At the same time, Venkatesh Iyer and Harshal Patel can also get their first central contract.
