Cheteshwar Pujara, one of the most experienced batsmen on the Indian Test team, is running out of the national team due to his poor form. But, now Pujara has strengthened his claim of making a comeback with the bat in the county cricket being played in England. The right-handed batsman has scored a brilliant double century in his very first match of the year. It was the miracle of this wonderful inning of Pujara (Cheteshwar Pujara ) that his team Sussex was successful in getting this match drawn. Pujara faced 387 balls in his innings and scored 201 not out with the help of 23 fours. Apart from him, captain Tom Haines also played brilliant innings of 243 runs.
Only second Indian batsman to do so
Before Pujara (Cheteshwar Pujara) in the county, only one Indian batsman had managed to score a double century. This batsman is none other than former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin. He has done this feat twice. Azhar made his first double century in the year 1991 against Leicestershire. He scored 212 runs during this period and scored 205 against Durham in 1994. He scored both these double centuries while playing for the team of Derbyshire. Apart from these two, former India legend Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi also has four doubles in county cricket, but at this time he used to be part of the English team.
The magical figure of a century touched after so many innings
This century with the bat of Cheteshwar Pujara has come after a long wait of 52 innings. He last touched this figure in the year 2020 against Karnataka. Last 2 years, he scored 1518 runs at an average of 30.36 with the help of 14 fifties.
In the match, Derbyshire scored a mountainous score of 505 runs for the loss of eight wickets in the first innings. In response, Sussex’s team was bundled out for 174 runs in the first innings. After which he had to face the follow-on, after which he scored 503 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in his second innings on the basis of the record partnership between the two batsmen and got the match drawn with respect. Pujara (Cheteshwar Pujara) was able to score only 6 runs in the first innings.
