IND vs WI 2022: In the first match of the 3-match T20 match between India and West Indies (IND vs WI), Team India took a 1-0 lead in the series by winning a spectacular victory by the wicket. Electing to bat after losing the toss, the West Indies team scored 157 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, the Indian team completed the target in 18.5 overs by losing 4 wickets. Earlier in the ODI series too, Team India had won a 3-0 clean sweep. The second match of the T20 series will be played on 18 February, the same, the third and last match will be played on 20 February.
Rohit won the toss, decided to bowl first
West Indies captain Kieron Pollard made a comeback in this match after not taking part in the last 2 matches of the ODI series. Team India’s captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and keeping the dew condition in mind, he did not take any time to decide to bowl first. Young leg-spinner Ravi Vishnoi got a chance to make his international debut in this match.
IND vs WI: West Indies put up a respectable score
Electing to bat after losing the toss, West Indies did not start well. Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave the first success to the Indian team by dismissing Brendan King on the fifth ball of the first over. After that, Kyle Meyers and Nicholas Pooran put together a brilliant partnership of 47 runs for the second wicket. But after that Chahal first to Meyers and then Ravi Vishnoi, playing his debut match, put West Indies in deep trouble by dismissing Roston Chase and Rovman Powell in the same over.
But Pooran stood at one end and made a brilliant half-century forgetting the failure of the ODI series. Pooran hit 4 fours and 5 skyscraper sixes during his brilliant half-century innings of 61 runs. In the end, Captain Pollard played an innings of 24 runs to take West Indies to a respectable score of 157 runs.
Rohit Sharma led the captaincy innings in the series
Chasing the target of 158 runs, Team India got off to a great start by the opening pair of captain Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan. Where Ishan batted carefully, the same captain Rohit took an aggressive approach from the beginning. In the fourth over of the innings bowled by Oden Smith, he scored a total of 22 runs, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes. Rohit scored 40 runs in just 19 balls with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes.
In the middle, the Indians did lose 3 wickets within 20 runs, but after that Suryakumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer put together a 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket to give the Indian team an easy 6-wicket win. Surya scored an unbeaten 34, while Iyer scored an unbeaten 24.
