Butler said it was a “great honour” to take over from Morgan. He also thanked Morgan for taking the team to new heights. They said,
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Eoin Morgan for his brilliant leadership over the past seven years. He has been an inspirational leader, and it has been wonderful to play under him. There are many things that I have learned from him that I will play in this role.
It is a great honour to take the captaincy from Eoin, and the place he has left English white-ball cricket is exciting, and I look forward to the challenges ahead. It is a tremendous honour to captain my country, and when I get the opportunity to step into the past, I love doing it. I can’t wait to take this team forward”.
