The former coach had reportedly submitted a report at the time in which he remarked that Umar Akmal and Shehzad should play domestic cricket to regain their place in the national team. The opener was unhappy with these comments and said such discussions should be held face-to-face.
He also claimed that it was a pre-planned approach and that he wanted to kill two birds with one stone. Shehzad also said that the coach’s words hurt me.
The 30-year-old launched a scathing attack on former cricketers and senior players, saying they were not supported properly. Shehzad used the flourishing example of Virat Kohli under MS Dhoni’s captaincy to make his point and said that Pakistani senior players could not digest the success of another star.
Significantly, in 2016, Ahmed Shehzad was dropped from the team. Even before this, he kept going in and out of the team. Although he was out of the team on some occasions due to injury, his poor form also led to his exclusion from the team later.
